What is a Comprehensive Behaviour Consultation?

Pet behaviour is surprisingly complex and there can be several explanations for a pet’s unwanted behaviour. Traumatic experiences, rewarding without intending to, personality and early learning, genetics, lack or coping mechanisms or medical problems can all be reasons for unwanted behaviours. To determine what is causing your pet’s challenging behaviour, Dr Natalia Bewick, our qualified veterinary behaviourist, does an in-depth analysis. This assessment explores the ins and outs of the behaviour problem itself and everything else that affect your pet’s activities and behaviour.

What to expect?

A comprehensive assessment usually lasts one and a half to two hours. Dr. Bewick, analyses your pet’s concerning behaviour and everything related to your companion’s life:

  • Day to day routines,
  • Past experiences,
  • Environment,
  • Personality,
  • Triggers of the behaviour,
  • Diet and other aspects of your companion’s life.

Then Dr. Bewick develops an individualised plan for you and your companion. This may include recommendations to modify the environment, positive reinforcement training, medication, nutrition changes, and other strategies to address the root cause of the problem.

What to do next?

  1. Please fill out a pre-consultation questionnaire (either for cats or for dogs).
  2. Ask you vet to fill out our referral form.
  3.  Please book an appointment. The cost of the appointment, assessment, report, and recommended behaviour therapy plan is £420 including VAT.

What happens after the consultation?

Dr. Bewick will send you a behaviour report together with an assessment, diagnosis and the behaviour therapy plan’s recommendations. She will also lay out the first steps of your pet’s training programme.

To help you manage your pet’s behaviour issues, we recommend enrolling in a behaviour therapy plan.
