Our Founder

Dr. Bruce Fogle sits in a wooden chair holding a small white and brown dog. He wears a navy blue vest over a light blue shirt, with a stethoscope around his neck. Behind him, a sign reads 'Dr. Bruce Fogle Veterinary Surgeon,' and shelves stocked with pet supplies are visible in the background.

Dr Bruce Fogle MBE DVM MRCVS is one of the world’s most respected veterinarians, authors, and animal welfare advocates. The best-selling author of more than 40 books, translated into over 35 languages, he has spent more than five decades advancing veterinary care and strengthening the bond between people and their pets.

Born and educated in Toronto, Canada, Bruce graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph before moving to London to work at the Zoological Society of London’s Regent’s Park Zoo. After gaining experience in private practice, he founded the London Veterinary Clinic in 1973.

That same year, he married actress Julia Foster. Together they have three children: Emily, an art director; Ben Fogle, the broadcaster, writer, and journalist; and Tamara, a fashion accessories designer.

Internationally recognised as a leading authority on companion animal care, Bruce has lectured in more than 24 countries, authored numerous scientific publications, and played a significant role in animal welfare through organisations including Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Humane Society International.

Honoured for a Lifetime of Service

In 2004, Bruce was appointed MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to deaf people, in recognition of his work co-founding Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity supporting thousands of deaf individuals across the UK.

In 2023, he received the Queen’s Medal from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the highest honour awarded by the College, recognising more than 50 years of outstanding contribution to veterinary medicine, education, authorship, and animal welfare.

Together, these awards reflect a lifelong commitment to improving the lives of both people and animals through service, compassion, and dedication.
