Holly Mash has joined the London Vet Clinic to provide weekly Senior Health Care Clinics. Holly, a 2001 Bristol University Veterinary School graduate, has extensive clinical experience, is a consultant tutor at the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists Foundation Course and has worked at Bristol University’s Veterinary Teaching Practice.

During a 45 minute appointment with you and your dog or cat, Holly will identify ways to help improve your pet’s everyday comfort, mobility and general health by using a range of treatments and dietary measures. She will examine your pet’s health history, genetic predispositions, diet, activities and home environment to provide you with support, advice and a long-term health care plan that addresses the root causes of your pet’s condition. Following each initial consultation Holly will send you a ‘Health Care Plan’ that includes a range of achievable solutions to help you keep your dog or cat’s life comfortable and fulfilling. She will see you both again three to four weeks later to review progress by, for example, assessing muscle strength or examining the range of motion of joints.

Your pet’s ‘Health Care Plan’ may cover these topics.

·    Review of current medications: A summary of what your pet is taking and, in consultation with Grant, Bruce, Hugo or Veronica, any changes advised.
·  Diet: Recommendations for weight loss or a move to a senior diet Smaller, more frequent meals for smaller appetites etc.
·  Suitable Supplements: Including glucosamines, essential fatty acids, antioxidants.
· Complementary remedies: Herbal remedies to support mobility.
· Home environment: The use of ramps, steps, raised food dishes etc. to help your pet get around its home easier.
·  Beds: Advice where appropriate on supportive (orthopaedic) types of beds, bed positioning etc.
· Exercise: Types and frequencies of walks as well as engaging ways to keep your pet’s mind active.
· Massage/Physio: Demonstration of massage or physiotherapy techniques and diagrams of these techniques.
·   Suitable additional treatments: Eg acupuncture – explaining how this would be beneficial.
